🚀 Getting Started
Welcome to shout, a powerful tool that quickly converts your speech to text. This software is built for Omarchy users, as well as anyone on Arch Linux or Hyprland. With shout, you can easily transcribe your voice, making it ideal for note-taking, content creation, or simply dictating your thoughts.
🔧 System Requirements
Before you download shout, please make sure your system meets the following requirements:
- Operating System: Arch Linux or compatible distributions
- Processor: 64-bit CPU
- RAM: At least 2 GB
- Storage: Minimum 100 MB of free space
📥 Download & Install
To get shout, visit the Releases page to download the latest version:

Once you’re on the Releases page, follow these steps:
- Find the Latest Release: Look for the most recent version at the top.
- Choose Your File: Download the version suitable for your system. Look for the file that ends with
.tar.gz or another format (like .zip).
- Download: Click on the file link to start the download. It should save to your Downloads folder or your specified download directory.
After downloading the file, you’ll need to extract it:
- Navigate to your Downloads folder where the file is saved.
- Right-click on the downloaded file and choose “Extract Here” or “Extract to…”.
- This will create a new folder with the application files.
⚙️ Run the Application
To run shout, follow these simple steps:
- Open a terminal window. You can do this by searching for “Terminal” in your applications.
- Navigate to the folder where you extracted shout. Use the
cd command to change directories. For example:
- Once you’re in the correct folder, run the application using the following command:
📝 Using shout
After launching shout, you will see a user-friendly interface. Here’s how to use it:
- Microphone Access: Allow the app access to your microphone when prompted. This is needed for speech recognition.
- Start Speaking: Click the ‘Record’ button and start speaking. Try to articulate clearly for better recognition.
- Stop Recording: Click the ‘Stop’ button when you finish. The app will process your speech and display the text in the output area.
🛠️ Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues, try these common fixes:
- Ensure your microphone is connected and working. You can test it using your system’s audio settings.
- Check the sound settings to confirm that the input device is set to your microphone.
- Restart the application if it becomes unresponsive.
